cookbooks, big and small
The Queer Cookies Cookbook (2021)
Created and curated by poets Tyler French and Regie Cabico, this small cookbook features a collection of poems from DC-area LGBTQ+ poets with recipes created to complement each. (I edited the recipes!) To read more about the project, check out this article in the Washington Post. You can buy copies of The Queer Cookies Cookbook at Loyalty Books and Bold Fork Books.
The Cuisine of LIFE: Recipes and Stories of the New Food Entrepreneurs of Turkey (2019)
I worked with a team of talented, kind, generous people to edit the text and recipes of this very special cookbook, featuring recipes from members of the LIFE Project, a food business incubator in Turkey that supports both refugees and host communities. The cookbook documents the members’ culinary heritage and paths to becoming food entrepreneurs, and also includes essays from food luminaries around the world.
Small Batch: People and Recipes from Around DC (2019)
This tiny, 13-recipe cookbook contains recipes from writers, makers, chefs, artists, and artisans, all in the DC area. I’ve had this idea in my head for a while; with Marcella’s design and illustrations, I’m happy to say it’s a beautiful little gem. We printed 400 of this first batch — and they’re all sold out! (Though if you ask nicely enough, I may be able to get you a copy.)
Featuring recipes from: Sara Hernández; Danny and Johnny Dubbaneh; Davon Pulliam; Caitlin and Yi Wah Roberts; Stephanie Holliman; Joahna Hernandez; Rahul Vinod and Sahil Rahman; Amjaad Al-Hussain; and Tyler French, plus Marcella and me.
King Solomon’s Table: A Culinary Exploration of Jewish Cooking from Around the World (2017)
I researched and edited text and recipes, plus tested several recipes for this book from the James Beard Award-winning, much-loved cookbook author and authority, Joan Nathan.
